Life Education is an ongoing positive health bass education programme that aims to give the children of New Zealand the knowledge and skills that will keep them free from harmful substance.
The Taranaki Life Education Trust is responsible for providing a mobile classroom and ongoing support. Funding is obtained from the community, and it is TLET’s responsibility to ensure that ownership stays within Taranaki. A national tru supports us with fund raising, programme development, education standards and other support services, which is funded by the Nation.

COLOURFUL CREATION
Designer-art teacher Michael Montgomerie picked up his second silver medal at the national sign and display awards for this creation. Montgomerie teaches art at Spotswood College and airbrushing at Taranaki Polytechnic but also runs his own company producing murals and display advertisements. The Life Education Trust commissioned the talented New Plymouth man to create a distinctively Taranaki mural for the province’s new mobile classroom. He entered the result in the vehicle section of the national sign and display awards held in Auckland during the weekend. 6I just went up to the bar to order a drink when they called out my name. I’m pretty pleased to get any placing, seeing that I only do this part time and was up against big companies who specialise in it,” he said.
“I get the best of both worlds because I get to teach art and practise my art,” he said.
Montgomerie, who already has gold medals for competing in rowing and wrestling at the national level, said he would continue entering in competitions until he won a gold for art as well.
The design, featuring many Taranaki landmarks, was created on computer and laser printed on to vinyl before being carefully stuck on to the mobile classroom trailer.
